AfterElton.com gay mens reader’s hot 100 list vote Jake Gyllenhaal as Number One
Given how little we’ve actually seen of Jake over the past twelve months – two films that grossed only $43 million between them; his very low profile since the death of friend and Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger – it truly is a testament to Gyllenhaal’s enduring appeal to gay men that he topped our list for the second straight year. (It should be noted, however, that he edged out John Barrowman by only the narrowest of margins.)
What accounts for Jake’s ongoing appeal to gay men? His doe-eyed, boy next door (yet somehow smoldering) looks certainly don’t hurt, but we suspect what really makes gay men go for him is that he doesn’t have an issue going for us. From playing gay in Brokeback to appearing at a GLAAD award show to not feeling the need to distance himself from his gay fans (remember the shout out to us done in drag on Saturday Night Live?), Jake has done as much as any actor to show straight guys there isn’t a good reason to be afraid of gay guys (or gay roles).
Jake’s upcoming projects will showcase his range and willingness to tackle a variety of roles. This December he’ll be starring in director Jim Sheridan’s drama Brothers, then in 2009 moviegoers will see him tackle the romantic comedy Nailed before playing Dastan in Prince of Persia (based on the video game of the same name). Alas, none of his roles have him playing gay again, but we are curious to see what he does with his upcoming role as Joe Namath.

Jake Gyllenhaal graces the cover of the Italian version of Vanity Fair, holding his trusty bicycle, which we haven’t seen him ride in far too long. Jake looks as studly as ever, but I’m a little disappointed that he is wearing a shirt in all of the shots. Perhaps he wasn’t in the mood during the photo shoot, since he has been having a very rough time dealing with the death of his “amico vero” Heath Ledger.
The shoot does look like it would have been difficult. It seems most of the photos show Jake engaging in traditional male bonding activities all by himself. Jake in a boat on a pond. Jake fishing. As much as I enjoy looking at him, I imagine that the scenes only served to remind Jake that he recently lost his best bud.
Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstong need to help brush him off, squeeze him back into those tight shorts, and get him back up on that bicycle!

| OK, so maybe we don’t gush over a guy like Paul Walker because of his acting chops. Still, 2006 was a banner year for the surfing stud; he saw both Eight Below and Flags of Our Fathers hailed by critics. Running Scared didn’t shoot up the same box office, but he wields a gun and takes his clothes off, so you get the idea. Of course, his finest moments are all on DVDlike his washing machine screw fest in Varsity Blues, and Joyride, where he well walks into a diner buck naked and stands there for something like five minutes. even matter that his turn in the homoerotic thriller The Brotherhood II stopped short of being a full on gay experience to behold. The Tom Cruise look-alike (just taller and seemingly more normal) has a new pic coming out in the spring (he stars as a prodigy
rugby player in Forever Strong) and a slew of sexy pics on his revamped Web site, www.seanfaris.com. So there’s plenty of reason for you to stay in this stud’s corner. |

Anton wrote us thanking us for the compliment, and for four months he beat out celebrities like Heath Ledger and Justin Timberlake and ruled the top five. And why not? The Belarus native with a body for days already has a loyal following as a regular model for All
American Boys (if you haven’t visited the site, go Anton’s splashed all over the place). The Web has crowned him with the best bulge of the month, the best abs of the month. How about another best? Man of the year? |

Fitness model Derrick Davenport introduced muscles to the countdown earlier
this year, and with no one else with a bod quite like that on our countdown, he held down the top spot a record five times. He dipped a few times, which is why he isn’t in first place going into this vote, but he did win major brownie points for proudly announcing himself as one of our
hotties on his Web site and urging loyal fans to drop by and vote. He e-mailed, thanked us for nominating him, and then, Playgirl, the mark with which every hairless muscle stud with abs knows he’s
hot, named Derrick their man of the Year. Yeah, that’s a stud worth voting for all right. |

The aerobics stud none of you could stop talking about for month was hit hard in November, but that’s after four

Brokeback Mountain on Entertainment Tonight While Queer Day has been following all of the developments with Brokeback Mountain, we haven’t been sure what to make of the movie, that is until ET delivered a sneak preview last night. While the clips shown on ET can be downloaded here, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger look like they’ve delivered it and maybe, just maybe, the rumors about Ledger almost busting Gyllenhaal’s nose during a kissing scene just might be true.
